Mini Case Study

The challenge

The challenge was to bridge the information gap between a "Quick Start" guide and the deeper needs of a beginner. I identified that new users required more contextual depth to successfully adopt the practice, which the existing high-level guide couldn't provide.

The approach

  1. Domain and contextual research: I researched the background of each of the steps in the sangha.org meditation guide to provide comprehensive context and meet the user's situational need.
  2. Information architecture: I organized the research into a logical hierarchy, using clear categories to provide background and full context to reduce confusion and search fatigue.
  3. Instructional design: I translated gathered content into accessible microcopy, matching the voice of the meditation guide.

Navigation design

I structured the navigation to support a non-linear learning path. And by grouping the deeper content with the content of the main task screen, I ensured users could access detailed explanations without losing their focus on the current step.

The solution

I implemented a tiered content structure using clear heading levels along with "Note" callouts to reduce clutter in the main instructions. From this, users were able to track their learning step while also being able to maintain their sense of place.
